Progress is being made but there is much more to do.

I continue to work with city staff, Glenwood residents and property owners to get Glenwood cleaned up. That is the first thing that must be done and progress is being made. I wanted to create a post that shows what kind of progress is being made. I also wanted to give a quick preview of where I am going next.

I do not have any before pictures for 1408 Portland Street. However, I did work with the city to get this property cleaned out and secured.

Major problems on Willomore Street will be targeted next. There are several houses that need immediate attention in a one block area. I will team up with inspectors next week and we will create a plan that will address problems in this area.

Called city today and met with an inspector at this house. While I was in the house filming the inspector was outside condemning. I am not just reporting what is going on. I am making sure it gets cleaned up.

If the owner does not clean the mess up the city will remove the trash for $75 a load. The owner will make a decision today about what they are going to do.

I received a call today from a clandestine informant about Silver Avenue. I will go by there tomorrow and see what is going on. I have recently reported houses that need to be boarded up on McCormick Street and Lexington Avenue as well. I will keep you informed.

I live in Glenwood and I care about the area. I feel that there are several things that need to be addressed expeditiously. I plan on doing that and I created a blog to document my progress. When I first moved back to Greensboro one of the first things I wanted to address was the dilapidation and physical disorder. I reported the busted windows at the location of the Grove Street Cafe as well as Duncan Music and eventually they were boarded up. While there is much more work to be done, it is an improvement. Currently, the back parking lot located behind the Grove Street Cafe and Duncan Music is being used as some sort of dumping location.

I have reported this to the city and hope some action is taken.

I also took on the issues present at Gregory Street and Union this summer. 913 Union Street has been an issue for a while but is currently set to be demolished. I hate to see anything get torn down. However, if the house is not getting the attention it needs something has to happen. I have contacted Wanda Hovander with the City of Greensboro's Inspections Department to get an update and she repsonded that the city will begin the demolition process after January 11, 2010. The process has certain steps and it could take a while before a demolition takes place.

913 Union Street was not the only problem in this area. Several houses on Gregory Street were open and homeless people were squatting in the houses. I worked with the city to get some of the issues on Gregory Street addressed and continue to do so.

I have learned that there is a problem with 912 Gregory Street being used by squatters and I am currently working with the city to get this location secured.

UPDATE: the house on Gregory was boarded up!

I get my head shaved at the barber shop on Glenwood Avenue. It is a clean shop that is becoming some what of a gathering place in the neighborhood. I hope to see it grow and be a success for a long time. However, it wont if we don't go to it. It's a great place and I hope to see you there!

No Cashpoints ATM for Glenwood?

UPDATE: I was told by a representative for Cashpoints that the ATM was placed on the wrong side of the parking lot and could be moved in two weeks. However, she also said it could take two months to move it.

I am not sure why we got a cashpoints ATM at our neighborhood shopping center if it was not going to work. I plan on asking questions about this and hope we can get an operating cashpoints ATM. It would be a nice thing for our neighborhood to have.
